“Blue Suede Shoes” has such a catchy name that I had to try it. A member of a popular internet tomato forum, by the forum name of “Tormato,” discovered this variety as a natural or bee cross of OSU Blue and Brandywine Sudduth. The cross was noted in 2011, and the fruits were described as “small/medium red globe with dark purple to black shoulders.” I do not know the filial generation of my original or saved seeds; however, my plants produced the same phenotype as Tormato’s description. My tasting notes recorded, “Excellent flavor; very glossy; very dark anthocyanin on top.” Red with anthocyanin varieties do not usually taste that good to me, but Blue Suede Shoes was much better than I had expected. I will mark this as a developing line in case it is not stable yet.
