“Gartenperle” (Aiapärl; Sadovaya Zhemchuzhina; Садовая Жемчужина; Garden Pearl) is a hanging basket variety that produces masses of deep, rosy pink cherries with balanced flavor. It is less sweet than Pink Pearl of the Garden, which I grew side by side for comparison. Gartenperle is a Russian commercial variety that was sold under a translated name. I am including all of the names I could find associated with this variety here, so that they will be kept. Gartenperle produces very well, and over a considerable period of time. As with most of the hanging basket varieties and micro-dwarfs, it does not like my hot and humid climate; however, it performed excellently when I started the seeds in October and set the plant out with protection in early March (our temperatures are warm by then).
