“Peacevine Cherry” is a stable (since the mid-1970s) open-pollinated version of Sweet 100 F1. It was selected and stabilized by Alan Kapuler of CV Peace Seeds. Size of the red cherries has been reported as ½ inch. They were almost currant-like for me, right at 0.2 to 0.25 ounces each. Flavor was very sweet, and as seedy as a currant variety. It is reported that Peacevine Cherry does not do well in the heat, so I would recommend southern growers to start it early, as I did, or grow it in the fall. I set my plant out in mid-April and it gave a good harvest before being killed by the June heat, humidity, and insect burden in the western Florida panhandle. I do have a thing for currant tomatoes and currant-like varieties…I think it has to do with the sweet little burst of flavor and the quantity of seeds. There isn’t the “mouthful o’ goo” that you get with a large cherry. Recommended!
