Pendulina Orange
$2.50
“Pendulina Orange” is possibly an old Swedish variety, developed by a Swedish seed company Weibulls around the 1960s. I wasn’t going to grow it, because the single taste report I found stated that while ultra-early, the fruit flavor was only passable. I looked more closely at the photo with the description (on Tatiana’s TomatoBase, but not reviewed by Tatiana…it was another grower), and found that the taster had picked and cut them open before full ripeness. The gel and some of the outer parts of the fruit were still green. If you pick this variety dead ripe (the gel is orange), and do not overwater it after breaker, you will find a very rich and fairly sweet flavor. It was meaty and juicy and delicious to me. The fruits are larger than I expected, at 1 ounce being more of a small cocktail or saladette size than cherry.
