“Ladyfingers” was brought to us by the same breeder who created Shimofuri. Ladyfingers is dainty, with thin, branching, long stems and gorgeous creamy white “finger-shaped” fruits. The fruits are sweet and refreshing, quite tangy at nearly ripe and very sweet at full ripeness, as well as abundantly set. I have grown Ladyfingers as a hanging basket plant and also in a pot with a vertical cage, and she did equally well in both. The branches are easier to control in the hanging basket though, letting them drape rather than poke out all through the sides of a cage. Something that surprised me was that this variety was grown to stability in New Jersey…yet it set fruit here in Florida in August! It set much more fruit when I grew it in April 2020; however, the fact that it lived and fruited when transplanted in July 2021 attests to its vigor. Ladyfingers takes a little longer to germinate, just as Coyote does, especially when the soil/planting medium temperatures are a little cool.
