“Albenga” (Coeur de Boeuf Albenga; Coeur de Boeuf Ligure) is a beautiful and prolific large piriform heirloom variety from Albenga, a town in the Liguria region of Italy. I received seeds for this variety from a wonderful woman in Italy, who marked the packet simply, “Albenga.” This is a solid, meaty tomato, really excellent for cooking and with strong flavor when not overwatered during ripening. I have grown it twice now, and each time it has set a large number of fruits, most of them of fairly large size (1/2 to 1 pound).
