“Little Heartbreaker” is another relatively new micro-dwarf variety whose origins are unclear. If I had to guess (but this is a wild guess indeed!) I would say perhaps it came from a growout of HeartbreakersTM F1 Dora Red. The growth habits of both are interestingly rather sprawly and very alike, as are the fruit shapes. The plants do appear to be true micro-dwarfs, reaching about 10” to 12” in 2 gallon pots. The plants are more dainty than bushy, and although “sprawly,” their stems do not extend far like a recumbent hanging basket variety. I ordered my seeds from two different vendors and out of 14 plants, six of them produced elongated “skinny” heart shaped fruits. The others produced pretty little red hearts with pointy tips. I will mark this as a developing variety because of this. Little Heartbreaker fruits were 0.43 to 0.62 oz with balanced sweet and acid flavor in rather dry but meaty (not mealy) flesh. This variety also had a short life in my climate. The little plants covered themselves with fruits and then died in the first week of July. These are perhaps best grown indoors under lights. NOTE: One packet per order please.
