“Jip & Janneke” is a true micro-dwarf variety that bears fat, juicy, red cherries at a plant height of 8” to 10” in a 2 gallon pot. The fruits are soft when ripe, but not mealy. The flavor is tipped a wee bit more on the acid side than the sugar side, but it gives a clean, balanced tomatoey flavor. The cherries are 0.45 to 0.65 oz. Jip & Janneke is one of these more recent micro-dwarf varieties whose details of origin are not easily found. I see that their name came from a series of children’s books in the Netherlands, written by Annie M. G. Schmidt and first published in the 1950s. From this I would like to say that the tomato variety was developed in the Netherlands; however, this is only a guess. I really have no idea. I found Jip & Janneke an enjoyable little tomato to grow, although its harvest was short when the plants died from the challenges of my climate at the end of July. Their size makes them a good variety to grow indoors under lights, however. NOTE: One packet per order please.
