    • “Sirenevyi” came to me under this transliterated name that the seed vendor is using, but after lots of searching, I feel that this is indeed the Russian variety Перец Сиреневый Блеск, which roughly translates to “Lilac Gloss.”
It is unfortunate that I did not get a photo of the unripe fruits in their glory of shiny purple on the plant. The fruits start out pale green, turn to lovely lilac then deep purple, and finally bright red. The shape is like a bell pepper at the stem end (lobed) but pointed at the blossom end. As you can see in my photo, various sizes may be produced on the same plant, with the shorter ones looking much like a heart. Sirenevyi tastes fresh and mild, not bitter, at the unripe purple stage. I prefer the robustly sweet red ripe stage, however. This did not make a large plant for me, and it is described by the Russian seed vendors as a medium compact plant, suitable for greenhouse or field.
